18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”…25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.”  1 Corinthians 1:18-19, 25 NIV

Women of Faith: Participating in God’s Life & Mission

Last January, I received a call from Myna whom we met at the YKR Youth Camp last December. She invited me to be their guest speaker at their Interchurch Women’s Fellowship Conference. Because they know that I am married, they also invited Apol as their speaker during the Church’s Sunday worship service. We exchanged email with Ptr. Dan from her Church at GCI to learn more about their expectations. We also learned more about GCI and since our schedule was open, we accepted. Praise God for GCI also offered to pay for our traveling expenses to and from (Cebu-Samar-Cebu).

Apol and I are very excited for tHis ministry opportunity because it is a first time for both of us to minister in Samar. We have driven by the province before and we are grateful to God for opening the door at tHis time.

So we both pray-pared for our assignments: (B) speaking on Women of Faith: Participating in God’s Life & Mission on Saturday, Feb. 27; (A) speaking on Walking With God on Sunday, Feb. 28. Other than Myna whom we briefly met twice before through a mutual friend, we are both strangers to GCI. This made tHis mission trip to Samar more special and exciting.

We packed up and left Cebu in the morning on Friday, Feb. 26 to travel to Motiong, Samar. Ptr. Dan met us at the van terminal in Tacloban in the afternoon at 5:30 P.M. then we rode to Motiong another couple of hours. We arrived safely at the GCI around 7:45 P.M. and was warmly greeted by Ptr. Dan’s wife and Myna’s family. At dinner, we had a chance to get to know each other more then got ready for bed to get rest for the conference the following day. They told us that they have 45 confirmed attendees. Praise God!

The following morning, women from different Churches started arriving around 8:30 A.M.. As they registered, it turned out that more women came to join us. Praise God for a total of 78 attendees showed up! (Ptr. Dan’s wife later told me that they did not expect that number of attendees but as others came, their stories were common. Some of them have not even joined their Church’s ladies’ fellowships for a long time now, but they decided to come to the Conference. Praise the Holy Spirit for moving them to join us!)

We had a full day: studying God’s Word, fellowshipping, worshipping, playing games, and learning to develop ourselves more as women of faith participating in God’s life and mission. We were exhausted at the end of the day and fulfilled as we witnessed God’s mighty power to move and to touch every heart present that day.

The following day, it was Apol’s turn to speak at the Sunday

worship service. As he shared God’s message on “Walking With God”, he admitted his own struggle about spending time with God and His Word. He shared his heart and came alongside the Church as he spoke on how we can all be victorious and keep on walking with God.

Again, we had lunch fellowship with GCI Church. Ptr. Dan shared with us that he would like our ministry partnership to continue. We let him know that we appreciate the open door and we welcome other ministry opportunities God would give us to come alongside GCI. Afterwards, Ptr. Dan invited to take us around Catbalogan, Samar to see the other islands that you would not normally spot in the maps. Because I have not been feeling well since the day before, we agreed that I would stay behind and Apol went with him. As I stayed behind, this gave me a chance to get to know Myna and her family more. I even had a chance to cook pancakes for her three children that I found refreshing. Having young children sit around the kitchen table hovering while I cook was something I knew I was missing BUT God gifted me that opportunity in Samar.

We talked more in to Sunday evening until we had to go and get rest for the following day’s long travel back to Cebu. We all look forward to the next time God will allow us to go back and minister with them again.

Welcome to Cebu: Smiley, Nikki, Ptr. Ryan, and Ria!!

Preparing to host the PBCC team from Manila has been exciting for us because we got to watch another vision be fulfilled; another confirmation for God’s purpose for bringing us to Cebu and His building of Dove home. If you read our report last month, you will remember how God moved to bring in more funds towards the completion of Dove home, and even raising more funds so we can start furnishing to accommodate the four people coming from PBCC. We have been working with our contractor to make sure Dove home is sufficiently ready by Friday, Feb. 5.

The “d4G’s kingdom” training resulted from the interest expressed by Ria and Smiley during our mini-discipleship training at our last trip to Manila. We tried to cover as much as we could in the short time we had together. So when they agreed to come to Cebu to give more focus on their equipping, we started praying. Then

First of the nine sessions with Kuya Apol J

Nikki expressed interest to join as well. The “icing on the cake” is when Nikki informed us that her husband, Ptr. Ryan, asked if he could come as well even if he is not joining the training. (This is great news because since Apol would be preparing our meals and doing our needed errands, Ptr. Ryan could be his assistant. This is also a good opportunity for Apol and Ptr. Ryan to have some bonding time again.

We had nine (9) sessions covering: Geneogram; Spiritual Gifts and Ministries; Setting Priorities, Time Management, & Budgeting; What is praise & worship; How to Lead Worship and How to Pick Songs; Stand in the Gap & Pray; Application; Church Partnership; and Commitment. Our three days together were full and we praise God for keeping us all focused. We also went on prayer walks at the Taoist Temple and the Sto. Nino Church. We also had opportunities to apply some of our training on Sunday morning. The PBCC Team were put in charge of putting our Sunday worship/communion service together using what we have available. They were all encouraged to take on roles that are in-line with their spiritual giftings.

Come Sunday morning, Ria and Nikki prepared our breakfast. Afterwards, we prepared for our Sunday worship/communion service at the Dove

Praise God for our first worship service at Dove Home put together by the PBCC Team! Being the first Sunday of February, we also had communion. J

Home…our very first! J We all had a blessed time worshipping our Lord and Savior as each one took their role: Ria prepared our hearts with God’s Word; Smiley prayed for the PBCC team and she also led us in singing; Ptr. Ryan gave God’s message; and Nikki prepared our communion and served as our offering usher. Nikki also printed our songs to guide us.

We had two more sessions on Sunday afternoon, then we had our last supper together. While waiting for the time for the Team to go to the Airport, It was great to unwind with them and watch funny videos at Youtube. We all wish we have more time together. But we know it is time to go back and apply what we have learned for the furtherance of God’s kingdom.

Praise God for Dove Home is functional!!

(top left: kitchen; top right: stairs; left: back of the house; right: training area; below left: one of the bedrooms; below right: open loft in 2nd floor)

We praise God for the people He brought to us to construct tHis home. We have slowly gotten to know them and God is allowing us to build relationships with some of them. Because they have been working on Dove home for many months now, they shared our excitement about hosting our first team from Manila. Even though it meant for them to hold-off work for three days, they understood it was another fulfillment of what God wants to do at Dove home. They did their best to complete necessary works to make sure we could accommodate the team and make their stay at Dove home as safe and comfortable as possible. The room partitions in the second floor were completed and they got the jalousies in the windows installed two days before the team arrived. The day before, we went to the store to get curtains to add color and warmth to the rooms. Apol got four thick bed foams almost at 50% because they were the last pieces of the kind that the store wanted to get rid of. We also found some good thick fabrics to lay on the floor so the beds would not slide on the floor.

The Team arrived and the accommodations went without a hitch. They were all very understanding as we oriented them to the facilities and they quickly adapted. They were also excited to be in Dove Home, as like most of you, they have been watching Dove Home from pictures in our ministry updates. For them to have “first dibs” to Dove home was very fulfilling. Indeed their presence here brought joy to us and made Dove home more alive by His Spirit. For three whole days, the team blessed us and Dove home. All glory to God!

The construction workers came back and asked how the accommodations went. They were also happy when we shared with them how the team enjoyed their stay in Dove Home. We believe this inspired them more to complete what they have started.

Dove Home at night.. may it serve as God’s light in the darkness.

2 Cor 4:6, NIV “For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”

Counselors’ Training at

- February 7-

As head of counselors for the upcoming PAW Camp in April, Apol led the Counselors’ training at MCF last Sunday, February 7. It was originally scheduled for the Sunday before but the attendees did not commit until Jan. 31st. Praise God for the volunteers He brought to join us at PAW Camp. God continues to put all the details together and we are excited for what HE is going to do to wow us one more time!

Apol hurt himself and got a rib fracture while putting up the curtain rod in one of the bedrooms in Dove Home last Thursday, Feb. 4. Praise God for His provisions for Apol to see the doctor and for his medications.

This is a picture of our anniversary cake that Bettina bought to surprise Apol. It was supposed to say "praise God for 4 years! happy anniversary!" but the cake got jostled on my way home riding the jeepney.

Apol had a surprise up his sleeve as well. Bettina found this picture when she turned on her computer on our wedding anniversary date J  We're an odd couple and we thank God that He saw us fit to be each other’s lifetime partner. We praise God for four years ago today, we covenanted with each other and with God, as husband and wife, witnessed by our family and friends.may God grant us many more years and may He use us more to His pleasure.
